Benet Brandreth practices in all areas of intellectual property
and related fields, including patents, copyright, database
right, design right, breach of confidence and privacy, trade
marks, passing off and ICANN domain name disputes.
Benet has particular experience in trade mark disputes and
passing off and has acted for clients in tribunals ranging
from the IPO to the CFI – recent matters include an
appeal from OHIM at the CFI and acting as Junior Counsel in
Hotel Cipriani & others v Cipriani (Grosvenor Street)
& others. Benet also enjoys contract litigation with
an IP, IT or technical aspect - recent matters include litigation
in relation to the implementation of Point of Sale software
for Tier 1 retailers, Bermudan insurance and reinsurance contract
disputes and a television format rights contract dispute.
In 2005 Benet was appointed to the Treasury Solicitor’s
C Panel and has acted for various government departments in
relation to disputes ranging from claims for breach of contract
arising out of the UK-Russia Closed Nuclear Cities Partnership
to IT licence disputes to claims for infringement of data
protection principles by prisoners. This has broadened Benet’s
advocacy experience.
In his spare time, Benet gives lectures and workshops on
Rhetoric to various institutions including the Royal Shakespeare
Company and Warwick University and is an advocacy trainer
for the Middle Temple.
