Brian practices in all areas of Intellectual Property and Information Technology. With a strong technical background, Brian particularly specialises in cases involving substantial or complex electronic and or computing content. Called in 2000, he has considerable and varied experience in major multi-jurisdictional litigation, as well as smaller single-jurisdiction UK and European litigation. In 2008/9, Brian also appeared in a substantial Confidential Information trial in the Supreme Court of Gibraltar.
Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500 each recommend Brian as a Leading Junior for both Intellectual Property and for Information Technology.
For Intellectual Property, Chambers and Partners says:
Known to some as “Brain Nicholson”, thanks to his reputation as “an intellectual powerhouse,” Brian Nicholson “looks set to be a star of the future.” He is recognised for his specialism in cases involving electronic and computing content, as well as his tactical skill and “pragmatic approach to disputes.”
With which the Legal 500 concurs, describing him as “an intellectual powerhouse – you couldn’t want for better in complex cases”
For Information Technology, the Legal 500 describes Brian as “highly regarded” and Chambers and Partners says:
Brian Nicholson “has the commerciality and legal knowledge to do well.” His greatest strength is his “fantastic in-depth knowledge of electronics.” (IT)
In testament to his outstanding qualities, Brian was nominated in the Chambers Bar Awards 2007 as Junior IP Barrister of the year. As the nomination was explained:
Brian Nicholson has built upon his background as a Chartered Engineer to develop an impressive reputation in technical IP cases, where he is regularly instructed by major corporations and praised for his ability to “deal with any technical issue”. Significant instructions in other areas of IP and his committed support of the profession mark Brian out as an exemplary junior
