Kathryn Pickard
Kathryn’s practice covers all areas of Intellectual Property. She has a scientific background and regularly advises on technical disputes covering diverse areas such as biotechnology and mobile phone technology.

Kathryn has acted as junior in numerous trials covering the whole raft of Intellectual Property rights: patent, design right, passing off, trade mark and confidential information. She has acted as sole counsel in a patent revocation trial at the Intellectual Property Office and on an application to the Court of Appeal. She regularly acts in pre-trial applications and has appeared before the Appointed Person, the Court of Appeal and the House of Lords. Kathryn also represents clients at mediation.

Notable cases in which Kathryn has appeared include Yeda v Rhone-Poulenc Rorer, in which the House of Lords clarified the law on patent entitlement and Honda v Neesam, in which it was held that a trade mark proprietor had consented to parallel imports.

In 2008 Kathryn was called to the Bar of Gibraltar to represent the defendants to a breach of confidence action which was heard over 10 days in the Supreme Court of Gibraltar.

Rated by Chambers & Partners for the past three years Kathryn is described as an advocate who “really holds her ground” has “an amazing calmness under pressure” and who is “willing to go the extra mile for the client” (Chambers & Partners 2010).
