Positec Power Tools (Europe) Ltd v Husqvarna AB [2016] EWHC 1061 (Pat)
Both parties manufactured robotic lawnmowers. When the robot lawnmower approaches the edge of the lawn, it detects a pulsed electromagnetic signal propagated through a perimeter wire around the garden, and it turns around. The patent covered a particular method of signaling in the wire and detection by the robot. Chris worked on the case over an extended period of around 18 months, appearing in several applications concerning disclosure in patent cases ([2016] EWHC 1061 (Pat)), amendments ([2016] EWHC 2879 (Pat)), and experiments (17 November 2016 – unreported).
The case settled in March 2017 a few days before trial.
